Obsessed with good design, style, color, fashion and living by the water, this is me dipping my toes into the big world o' blogging and looking at the amazing images, products, projects and ideas floating out there.
I had fully planned to do another post this evening, but with the rain still coming down, the sky all dreary and dark, and our house warm and cozy, I must admit that I'm already wearing my PJs and pretty much hunkered down for the night. But, I will be back in the morning (hopefully a sunnier one at that!) with fresh new posts. See you then?
Hey Snuggies, move aside. There's a new product for relaxation and it doesn't need sleeves...'cuz it's SNAZZY.
Okay seriously, how could I NOT talk about this on here?!
Has anyone else seen this Snazzy Napper thing? I laughed for a solid five minutes when I saw the ad. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it essentially a blanket with a nose-hole? But oh is it snazzy... ;)
I reneg. I think it may be more scary than snazzy. If you saw this scene what would you think? I'm pretty sure if I saw this scenario on an airplane, I'd be deeply concerned that someone had died mid-flight and the stewardesses were trying to cover up the corpse. Either that or a snazzy terrorist had boarded the plane.
Maybe it's more appropriate for use in a car? Oh wait, that's totally insane too. Kids, don't try "snazzy napping" while driving, k?
How about in between two total strangers? I love that these guys are not paying any attention to the woman donning an ill-fitting burka next to them.
Are you all loving the Snazzy Napper as much as I am? Good, 'cuz you're all getting one for Christmas. You can thank me later. ;)
Repeat after me: a knock-off Birkin bag is not the answer (duh, everyone can tell it's obvi not real - unless you're a duchess or a celebrity).
I make an exception for this bag though - and the whole idea of it in general makes me laugh - introducing the "Birkin as tote bag" bag: Heh.
(Like I said, that bag makes me laugh. It's clever.) I spotted these fun Hermes-inspired tote bags on Bag Snob, but the author (Bag Snob Tina) didn't include a link to where you can get one for yourself - because these are evidently now back-ordered until August. Whaa? Maybe it's because they're only 45 buckaroos (as opposed to the $10,000+ price tag on a real Birkin). Extra bonus, these are much more practical for the summer.
I only wish I could get my hands on one for myself. If you're reading this, Bag Snob Tina, please, please send me the link! Pretty please? I promise I won't share it with anyone (other than on this blog...) Okay?;)
Peeps. Since I didn't get in until 3am last night (no, I wasn't partying it up; I was doing this) and didn't get to bed until even later, I am currently trying to catch up on some much-needed sleep before I have to run off to work. I will hopefully be able to post something later this evening, but for now, I am either napping or working. So tired. (It was worth it though.)
I will leave you with this in the meantime: Last night, driving home at 3am on my scooter, I was actually able to notice all the smells throughout town. During the day I never get this sensation, and I certainly don't get to breathe it in that way when driving in the car (even if the windows are down).
Luckily, this ain't no NYC, so the smells weren't too bad - it was really more the smell of the bay breeze, a neighbor's plants and flowers, or trees in different parts of town. It was so nice to absorb the slightly chilly air as I zipped home, alone on the road and with no headlights in sight.
However, I did smell one particularly heinous tree - I believe some call it, ahem, a "semen tree"? My friend Jess thinks it's a ginkgo tree. Whatever it is, it's nasty. Luckily, not much farther downtown, the smell of azaleas, magnolias and even roses wafted up as I zoomed by. I love the oncoming spring/summer.

Well, I saw it. I'm not going to say anything more about it - good or bad - basically because I'm not slick enough to not give anything away if I do. :) But I saw it and I was excited and I wanted to share. What I can tell you is that we went to the 12:01am show, since we thought it'd be kinda fun. It was totally fun, but I guess I didn't realize how loooong the movie is - with previews, we didn't walk out until 3am. (I just got home.) Yawwwwn, I am tired.
Just thought I'd share - woohoo, first to see it! ;) I'm off to bed now. Good night! (Or should I say good morning?)
Bad blogger. I slacked today. This weekend and Daylight Savings kicked my a$& (I mean "fanny"). I've spent the day catching up...and the morning lolling in bed. My bad. Be back on top tomorrow, promise.
And not to diminish it, but I've got some plans of my own for the rest of today, so I've got to run. Sorry to sign off a bit early, but sometimes you have to, in order to get some things done. Hope you have a great one today - and remember: tomorrow's Friday! xoxo, r.
Morning, everyone! Sorry for the slightly late start today, but I've got cozying up under covers and just hanging around on the brain and am therefore moving a bit slowly. With that all being said, when the very cool Anne Sage from The City Sage posted about having a "grown-up sleepover" a few days ago, it struck a chord and I've been thinking about it ever since. Especially with these gets-dark-early-and-is-perpetually-cold nights of what seems like an everlasting winter (we still have, like, at least two more months of winter to go! ack!), I feel as though a night in, hanging out with my girlfriends, would be a perfect Friday or Saturday night.
As Anne suggested, "Makeovers and movies, 'Truth or Dare' and Ouija boards, snacks and sleeping bags...these were the things that made being a little girl awesome, and can't we all use more awesome in our lives?" Photo from Martha Stewart Kids
So girls, who wants to come over some weekend and have a sleepover at my house? I'm sure B will be happy to have a boys night and return the next day, and we could hang out by the fireplace, drink milkshakes (spiked or not) and eat popcorn, paint our nails and play MASH. And yes, S, you can wear your onesie.
We'll need tons and tons of pillows and blankets. How about these beauties?: Cozy comforter (and so pretty!) from Rubie Green
We could even set up a tent in the middle of the living room! This one is from Cath Kidston, as photographed by Marcus Nilsson for Country Living.
Of course some cute PJs are in order. These silky pants from Victoria's Secret are surprisingly non-slutty.
I'll provide the DVDs of cheesy chick flicks, plus the fireplace, snacks and drinks, you all come armed with a pillow, PJs and maybe some MadLibs. Then next morning we can either go to yoga or go out for brunch and continue on our weekends refreshed. (Sorry girls: I love a good party, but I'm no chef, so you will not be waking up to freshly made Belgian waffles.) Sound good?
Good morning and happy hump day! How is your week going so far?
I noticed I haven't been getting as many comments as usual lately - and I looove hearing from you all - so I wanted to check in and see what you're thinking. Are you still liking this little blog? Anything you're missing? Anything you want to see in particular? I'd love to post some stuff that makes you all happy, so let me know your thoughts, even if you only have a moment. Pretty please?
In the meantime, on this so-far-sunny Wednesday, how cute is this cheery little house?
You caught me lying down on the job. Well, on the blogging side of things at least. On the housekeeping front, I've been earning an A+. Our party on Sunday was fab, and on Monday B and I took full advantage of the day off work by taking it easy alll day. Yesterday I snapped back into gear (to make up for our day of luxurious loafing) and spent the whole day cleaning like a manic to try and erase the fact that we hosted a very large red-wine-centric party. I forgot how much of a mess 25 people can make when drinking, eating and carousing. So yesterday was a fun, fun day of scrubbing carpet, toilets and other oh-so-fun activities.
Anyway, please forgive me for leaving you hanging out there in the blogosphere. I'll be back to normal starting tomorrow, I promise! Check back in later today or tomorrow morning for more, k?
(And I'll try to scrounge together some photos from the party, but unfortunately I didn't get any pics of the tables, food, etc. before everyone arrived and before things erupted into a mess of fun. Boo. And I did end up making the croquembouche [hurray!], but sadly didn't get a photo of it either. Double boo!)
p.s. Just realized that this post (above) verrry closely echoes this post from end of 2009. I think I smell a theme here - AKA we have a party and then I spend an entire day thereafter scrubbing down the house, and then post about it. Laaame. Sorry folks. (Though can we just pretend for a second that I'm a touch like Martha and somehow [derangedly] make cleaning sound semi-interesting?)
How cozy does this blow-up mattress look? Much better than the standard crash-at-your-friend's-place and hope-the-futon-and-blanket-don't-have-fleas fare. (Ok, ok, that might have been a flashback to college; hopefully your friends are a bit better off at this point.) But seriously, that sleep spot looks great.
The pink thing is a Sleepyhead - a mattress cover that adds a little nook for your head. The corner is held up by a thin stick that disappears under the mattress. I couldn't read the actual description of it on the product website (since it was in German), so I'm hoping the description from Swiss Miss is accurate...but it seems like it - I mean, there's not much more to figure out. It's a mattress cover. With a nook for your head. Et voila! :)
No matter whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Festivus or Chrismukkah (RIP, The OC!), wouldn't it be lovely to wake up to this scene during the holiday/winter season?
Whew, I'm getting a late start this morning! I guess I needed to catch up on my beauty sleep or some dreams....that and I was up late last night baking B a pumpkin pie since he didn't get one at Thanksgiving. Also it's really dark in our room now that winter's set in that I didn't even realize how late it was! Anyway, I'm jumping back into the day now and getting back on top of the blog posts. I hope you all are having a bit less scattered of a morning than I am. See you back here in a bit!
I'm not necessarily a huge fan of the above room overall (the black is more jarring than my normal style and I'm not a huge fan of the modern-style mobile), but something kept me coming back to this image. Then I realized it was the broad yellow and white stripes on the ceiling. I absolutely love the color and fun they add to this child's room without making it too juvenile or garish.
We're renters so we can't paint our ceilings, but I'm totally into what a big impact the painted ceilings in these rooms make. Take a look:
This is another cool kids room, except the ceiling's not painted - it's wallpapered (in Osborne and Little's Firibata Star pattern). What a great idea - now the child can look up at the stars without having to plaster the ceiling with stickers. Image from Domino.
This sky-blue ceiling, seen on Apartment Therapy, adds interest but still keeps things serene.
Here's another photo from Apartment Therapy, where the ceiling totally makes the room. Otherwise this would just be a very white kitchen. I've never liked red so much.
Finally, the green ceiling in this Sills Huniford room draws attention up and adds a cool boho feeling to the more traditional furniture. Not my style overall, but still very cool.
So what do you think? Are you brave enough to paint one of your ceilings? If I ever have a home, I'm totally going to try this.
Good morrrrrning everyone (all three of you) and happy Friday! I know you're all at work and didn't get to sleep in this morning but just remember that tomorrow's Saturday - prime sleeping in day - and Sunday is the end of Daylight Savings Time so you get an extra hour of sleep - woohoo! But since you can't catch your ZZZs right now (well, except you, Sara, napper of the world), I wanted to bring you these hilarious "dream soliloquies" from B, who is one of the most entertaining sleepers/dreamers I've ever met.
Here's his most recent sleep-talking:
B: mumble mumble mumble. Dash S. Me: what did you just say? B: it's a Spanish-speaking book.
Then there was this fun one at 4 in the morning:
B: You had an alien probe. You should tell your brother that you got a mobile phone. Me: I already have an iPhone, babe. B: Yeah, my baby's got a new mobile phone. Mo-biiiiiiiiiillle. B (singing this time): My baby's got a mobile phone. She can be anywhere and find it. She thinks it's Thursday, no, wait, Friday. Me: What??? B: --- (silently sleeping again.)
And finally, this is what I got earlier this week when I woke up with no covers:
Me: you stole all the covers babe. B (dead asleep): the Girl Scouts did it.
:) Aww, don't be mad at me, babe - these were too good not to share! I will have more for you all later if you liked these. Trust me, B is a font of entertaining sleep-talking so I'm sure there will be future funny ramblimgs. TGIF, y'all!
